Monthly Meetings
The last Atlanta RIMS luncheon before the summer break will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at Villa Christina.
The speaker will be Robert Philbrick, M.S., P.E., of Global Risk Miyamoto, LLC and he will be presenting on natural catastrophe management lessons from the hurricanes and earthquakes of 2008 and 2009. The earthquake portion of his speech will address the successes and failures of facilities in catastrophic earthquakes, and will answer the question “What does built to code mean?” The hurricane portion will overview recent storms, successes and failures, and present case studies. It will further discuss various risk management options, such as CAT modeling and the engineering approach to NAT CAT analysis.
Rob Philbrick is a Principal of Global Risk Miyamoto, LLC. Rob holds BS and MS structural engineering degrees from Cornell University and UC Berkeley, respectively, and is a licensed Professional Engineer. With over 25 years of experience, he is an industry leader in the areas of earthquake engineering, safety and risk analyses. Rob has lead damage investigations for engineering teams following numerous earthquakes and hurricanes both in the U.S. and internationally.
The cost of the luncheon is $25.
